Struth Gaming designed the ClawMates after growing frustrated with the endless search for the perfect mouse. They all had the same flaw, which is the fact that they require you to grip against the mouse, and not into it.

It's a tricky problem they cannot realistically solve. If they add protrusions to the mouse shell, they will only be correctly placed for a very small percentage of users, while feeling terrible to everyone else.

The modular shape of the ClawMates essentially allows anyone to create their very own, perfected version of that mouse. You get to add those 'protrusions' wherever and however you like.
